KICKBOXING

Kickboxing, as one of the stand-up combat sports, is based upon kicking and punching, historically developed from karate, mixed with boxing. It is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a contact sport. Japanese kickboxing originated in the late 1950s, with competitions held since then.

American kickboxing originated in the 1970s and was brought to prominence in September 1974, when the Professional Karate Association (PKA) held the first World Championships. Historically, kickboxing can be considered a hybrid martial art formed from the combination of elements of various traditional styles. This approach became increasingly popular since the 1970s, and since the 1990s, kickboxing has contributed to the emergence of mixed martial arts via further hybridization with ground fighting techniques from Brazilian jiu-jitsu and folk wrestling.

WHY KICKBOXING?

It's not uncommon that "Kickboxing" very often immediately is associated with aggression and violence. Although these terms are undeniably inherent to the domain of "Martial Arts" and self- defense, there's a whole lot more to it than generally imagine. We see three different types of people when it comes to Kickboxing. The talkers, the quitters and the real ones.

The talkers are those who have opinions and stories about Kickboxing, just as the image in their head, but actually never have set foot in a Kickboxing gym. The quitters are those who are fluttering around in momentary impulses and expectations based upon fancy moves of a Pro fighter, YouTube or movie scenes, but are dying after 10 minutes in the warming up and crawling for the exit.

The real ones who commit to the "Martial Art", the art of self- mastery, engaging to the reality of what Kickboxing is about, the development of your body, your mind and your soul.
To subject your body to the most intense cardio, power and endurance trainings, with altering resistance and ever changing dynamics. Facing your mental and psycho- emotional level, failing ego states, motor skill and self- management, triggering inexorably your self perception, coping mechanisms and accompanying emotions on impotence, insufficiency, inadequacy, anger and aggression.

The discovering of your live force, spirit, as a true universal force beyond all your mental constructions, convictions and beliefs of who you are. Developing, engaging and mastering internal and external features in order to become a better version of yourself, a more developed human being, more whole, complete, and real.

There are two main forms of aggression; active and passive aggression. And although aggression is a very human aspect that we should allow, investigate and bring into awareness as a trigger of a deeper or covered up impulse within the individual, screaming for recognition and attention, our educational and societal structure is very often based upon denial, suppression or prohibition. Utterly resulting in an unavoidable collapse, culminating into harming or damaging oneself, others or our surroundings for the very wrong reasons.

The active form, people who exteriorize their aggression as they feel, is by far the most healthy one. At least as long as their aggression relates to the real cause within themselves and is not a mere expression in the outside world as such. When it comes to the passive form, peoples who internalize the underlying causes, turning their aggression against themselves, are mostly causing damage to themselves.

Aggression is always in us. Whether we are the engaged responding to it or the aggressor for whatever flammable reason you might embody, in both ways it's very valid to discover its true source, that you are, besides just aggressive, also truthful.

Meaning, not externalizing it for the wrong reasons but its source, to the wrong people who have nothing to do with it. As aggression is in you, it's your responsibility (= the ability to respond, to the trigger or cause within you).

Before you can act upon aggression, you have to know its true nature!

Assertiveness or standing up for yourself. Before you can be assertive, you need to know who you are. For some people this is their nature, for others it is a real life's work to discover and honor a part of themselves.

Through Kickboxing, where you are subjected to self-defense techniques, standing up for yourself, strict cardio, strength and endurance training, your person and skills will develop. They will directly contribute to the formation of yourself, who you are and what you are able to do.

Your self-confidence will increase and also translate into everyday life.

    Everyone has fear!

The fear of the absolute beginner, who has been doubting or considering stepping into a Martial Art to feel more secure or simple being able to defend him/herself.

The fear of every fighter up to the most professional MMA fighter.
If he says he has no fear, he has not been KO-ed yet. But more important of knowing everyone has fear, is knowing yours.

Because nobody became a warrior by avoiding his or her fear. There is only one way to change fear into something useful, in confidence, and that is to challenge it, "by doing it". If not you keep carrying it around, wasting precious time of your life. And than, you didn't learn from it.

Being able to defend yourself is not an unnecessary luxury in this world. What supposed to be a natural reflex to guarantee his existence appears to be systematically undermined in our society. Besides that it also crumbles his very life  force, causing these reflexes to be truncated to such an extent that you can give a mundane person a slap to the head without getting a defensive reaction from their part. The alertness, presence and necessary reflexes have degenerated to weak, soft and a fearful individual. Living in fear to come up for himself, and standing his ground in necessary situations.
